Motel Modesto Heading South, Carlisle.
A grey day.
This Modesto is better placed than the Travel Lodge Modesto heading north: here, we are part of a services area. There is a sense of something available, even if it’s only petrol & coffee. Heading north, our Modesto was somehow hiding its qualities from public view. Which is perhaps why we spent time driving around looking for it.
Non-lobby call for 09.30 & a drive to Bredonborough: I collect my car so John & Alex are independently mobile next Tuesday, when this small tour comes to an end.
23.34 B&B Ace, Ely.
Briefly organising stuff & clean underwear in Bredonborough, then a three hour drive here. John & Alex arrived well before. We have lucked out: this is a self-catering outhouse of the main B&B building, and it is quintessentially period English.
A superb quiet evening gentling with the Weekend FT over dinner at the Pizza Express. PE is not always my favouritist of dining experiences, but usually has restaurants in good buildings well placed. The staff in Ely are friendly, so I am a happy boy.
